What is a black hole?

A black hole is a region in space where nothing can escape from it. Not even light is able to escape from it. A black hole has such a high mass that the gravitational energy generated is MASSIVE. Black holes are formed when heavy stars collapse in an event known as a supernova. There is a growing consensus that there is a black hole in the middle of most galaxies. There i evidence that there is a super massive black hole in the middle of the Milky Way. This black hole weighs 400 million solar masses, which is the weight of 400MILLION Suns! Because it is so heavy that not even light can escape, this makes it unable to be detected by telescopes. Instead, it can be seen by studying matter around it. However, black holes can evaporate and no longer attract all matter. They cannot attract everything forever. Smaller black holes take a longer time to evaporate and emit more radiation. I hope this has taught you more about black holes.
